Types of Golf Injuries and How to Prevent Them

The majority of golf injuries are due to overusing the same muscles and joints. When you repeat the same golf swing over and over, it can eventually cause injury.

A common golf injury is known as golfer’s elbow. According to OrthoInfo, golfer’s elbow is “an inflammation of the tendons that attach your forearm muscles to the inside of the bone at your elbow.” The arm muscles and tendons become injured from repeating the same motion time after time. Squeezing a tennis ball, wrist curls and reverse wrist curls are all exercises that can help you avoid golfer’s elbow and help build up your arm muscles.

Low back pain is another common injury golfers can experience. Poor muscle strength and flexibility can lead to serious back injuries. Rowing, pull downs, yoga and Pilates are all exercises to help strengthen your lower back muscles.

Tips to prevent golf injuries:

  • Stretch before a round of golf.
  • Use sunscreen and wear a hat to protect your skin.
  • Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.
  • Always be aware of your environment, especially with other people playing near you on the course.
