Valentine’s Day means it’s time to share the love, whether it’s with your significant other, family, gal pals or best guys. It’s important to show yourself some love, too, and that starts with taking care of your body.
Loving Your Bones
The best way to show your bones some love and help them stay healthy is by making healthy food choices. Your bones need a variety of nutrients to stay strong, including calcium and vitamins C, D and K. Low-fat dairy products are full of calcium and vitamin D, and eating lots fruits and vegetables will help supply all the other nutrients your bones need.
Loving Your Joints
Building healthy bones will help you develop healthy joints, too, but your joints also need some individual love. This can be accomplished through regular exercise, but even just some tweaks to your daily routine can help as well. Both sitting and standing for too long can wear on your joints, so try to alternate between the two to keep your joints from locking up. If your job requires you to sit most of the time, try to take a break and stand every 30 minutes or so.
Loving Your Muscles
Keeping your muscles healthy helps you to move freely and keep your joints in shape. The best way to show your muscles love is through regular exercise, but you can show them a little extra love by keeping them hydrated. If you become dehydrated while you’re exercising, especially in warm weather, it can lead to a number of health problems. Make sure to drink plenty of water every day, but especially when you know you’ll be outside or exercising.
