Are You at Risk for Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle. The National Osteoporosis Foundation states that there are a variety of factors that are both controllable and uncontrollable.

Controllable Factors:

  • Not being active
  • Smoking
  • Drinking too much alcohol
  • Not getting the adequate amount of fruits and vegetables
  • Not getting enough calcium and vitamin D

Uncontrollable Factors:

  • Being over 50
  • Family history of osteoporosis
  • Low body weight
  • Being female
  • Menopause
